Tourist route in the sancy massif

Anchored in the middle of the regional natural reserve of the volcanos of auvergne, the solid mass of sancy and its puy de sancy, 1886 m of altitude, climax of the central solid mass and higher volcano of the hexagon.

Count of orientation, panoramic sight on the tops of the Solid mass of Sancy, the Valley of the High Dordogne and Bourboule, the Chain of the Domes. Site of model aircraft making (practical free all the year). To also see: The village (roofs of roofing stones and masonries of character), lake of Pre Cohadon, the chevrery of Mount-Gilds (milked, nutrition of the herd, feeding-bottle for the kids…), the workshop leather of the Hamper, the market of the Jonquil and the shop of the craftsmen of the World.

Bourboule, town of water  Not to be missing: The Dordogne: it crosses Bourboule where it is spanned by 12 bridges. Chastreix/chastreix-sancy, the valley of the salty fountain  Not to be missing: The Valley of the Salted Fountain: a reserve of natural beauties with peat bogs, pastures of mountain pastures, hêtraies, sources… Puy de Sancy: station of Chastreix-Sancy, you will be able to reach, with foot, Puy de Sancy (1886 m). A yellow beaconing will lead you along the skis-lift then with the Collar of Courre (1722 m), from where you will be able to take the ways of peaks (panoramas on the valleys of the Salted Fountain, Chaudefour, the High Dordogne, and further on the Mounts of the Cantal). To also see: The Gothic church of XIIIème century, the Rock of Courlande, cascades of Bad cold-heart and the Small Bow net.

Mont-dore, the highest mountain in the massif central  Not to be missing: Sancy… in the cable car: a means easy and sympathetic to discover the most top of the Central Solid mass (1886 m). After the cable car, the rise continues with a staircase out of wooden with tables of orientation presenting the volcanos, fauna and the flora local Sources of the Dordogne: with the foot of Sancy, two small brooks “Gilds it” and the “Dogne” meet to give rise to the Dordogne. Thermal baths: of style néo-Byzantine, partly classified as “Historic buildings”. Vestiges of Roman thermal baths: guided tour. The Funicular of the Capuchin: built in 1898, it is the oldest electric funicular of France (classified machinery Historic buildings). Chambon-sur-lac and its lake  Not to be missed: The Lake Chambon: lake arranged for the bathe with two supervised beaches (in July-August) and of the nautical activities. Fish authorized. Turn of the lake to foot in 1h30 approximately. The Valley of Chaudefour: protected natural site classified Natural Reserve to protect its remarkable flora, its fauna (moufflons, chamois, marmots…) and its medicinal springs. Site of climbing with its two sharp-edged dykes: the tooth of Resentment and the Cockscomb. To also see: cascades of Voissières, Perugia and the Hind, the House of the Natural Reserve of Chaudefour, the Tooth of the Marshes (cliff above the Lake Chambon: splendid panorama), potteries, farms and mielleries.

Murol  Visit animated Castle of Murol: visit animated by “the Companions of Gabriel” in costumes which make discover the life of a châtellenie in XIIIème century. Possibility also of simple visits (not animated). Saint-diéry and its church  The church of Saint-Diéry-High: restored in the original style, out of lime, stone of lava and roof of roofing stones. The Chimney of the Fairies, in Cotteuges: this astonishing geological formation is appeared as an argillaceous column, capped of a block of hard stone. The ferruginous source of the Bridge-of-the-Goat To also see: Baker's ovens in Conché and Lyns, wrought iron or stone crosses, fountains, feeding troughs and laundrettes in the villages of Cotteuges, Roussat, Saint-Diéry-Low, Saint-Diéry-High, Cheix, Lyns, vault and oratory in Cheix, the farm of Lime (milked with the mountain pasture towards 16h), the aquicultural farm of Renlaigue, the cabinetmaker of art in New Moulin.

Besse-saint-anastaise, medieval and renaissance town  The medieval city and Rebirth: a visit with discovered paved lanes bordered of gravers, Saint-Andrew church, castle of the Baillif, Beffroy, Sainte-Marie Manor of the Ramparts, fountains Rebirth… The Lake Pavin: the deepest volcanic lake of the youngest Auvergne and, is also most attractive. It is also one of the 10 lakes in France where one can fish the omble knight. To also see: The house of the Bee, the museum of the ski, the house of water and fishing, the museum of Boinchoux.

Super-besse, beautiful panorama of puy de la perdrix  Panorama of Puy of Partridge: splendid panorama on the valleys and the peaks of Sancy, counts of orientation. Access by the telpher carriers. To also see: The Lake of Hermines (relaxation, idleness, course of health, water sports).

Egliseneuve d'entraigues, the house of cheese in auvergne  The House of cheeses of Auvergne (House of the regional Natural reserve of the Volcanos of Auvergne): allows to discover all the trade secrets of five cheeses of Auvergne, Appelation d' Origine Controlée (Saint-Nectaire cheese, blue of Auvergne, cantal, fourme of Ambert, salers). The Church of Austremoine: this Romance church of XIIème century, registered with the additional inventory of the Historic buildings, presents 22 superb capitals. Splendid polychrome paintings. Picherande and its lake  The Lake Chauvet: volcanic lake of crater which gets to the visitor calms alleviating and serene. The cascade of Barthe: ideal to refresh the directions, this strolls very easy, long, 2 km traverses themselves into 30 mn return ticket. The departure is located between Super-Besse and Picherande, the Bridge of Clamouze and the lake Chauvet. To also see: The track of rollers, around the lake of Gayme and the Romance church of Saint Quintien (XIVème century).
