Perpignan: a historical and artistical town

Old vestiges or treasures of the heart of the town, Perpignan allures at the same time by its past and the charm of its lanes.


  Visit of the king palace of Majorque, the most important monument of the town. Visit the Cabin of Sea, seat of the sea consulate.


  Visit the palace of the Delegation,
  L'Hôtel of town which shows proudly "la Méditerranée" painted by Maillol... Without forgetting Castillet, emblême of Perpignan (built at the end of 14th century) which was a castle, and then a prison.


  Try to go in the narrow lanes fixed between brick walls and "Cayrous", push the doors of the courses to penetrate in the patios and delay yourselves in the life and reunion places which are the places that you will discoversoul of Perpignan.


  The Saint-Jean-Le-Baptist Cathedral and the "Campo Santo" (larger cloister cemetery of France) could be the beginning of a walk around to discover the religious art in the town, which will also carry you towards the Saint Jacques church (starting point of Sanch: procession of the mysteries of the Good Friday) and the superb Garden of Miranda which is around.


  From the pretty streets to places, places to gardens, gardens to Bodegas you will also see other beauties hidden in the town as Julia Casa and Xanxo Casa.

  It would be interresting to see the works of Four names of art giant of the 20th century, attaches at the town of Perpignan:
  Aristide Maillol (1861-1944) whose cheap one has "la Venus au collier" and "la Méditerranée";
  Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) who occupied a workshop on the Arago place;
  Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) this immense artist remained very regularly in Perpignan,
  El Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was devoted to Perpignan twice, first once in New York by presenting its mystical table "le station of Perpignan" and the second time with its "Voyage Triomphal" (a space has from now on its name to the old Couvent the Tiny ones, thus qu'une Place in front of the Station).
