A " folly " by Eugène Vallin stands in the park which is now little more than a half of its original size. It is built on three levels -a underground level with grottoes for fish to swim in, a ground level with a small room that gets its light through windows lined with fish-tanks and finally a terrace shaded by a glass canopy. The whole construction overlooks the park. Eugène Corbin donated the house to the town which subsequently turned it into a museum.

 majorelle villa

majorelle villa

Louis Majorelle had already met and worked with the architect Henri Sauvage before he commissioned him to build his own home. The villa was built between 1901 and 1902 in collaboration with Jacques Gruber for the stained glass, Eugène Bigot for the ceramics and Majorelle himself for the wrought iron, furniture and wood panelling. The villa is strongly marked by "Japonism" and the plant world.

 renauld bank

renauld bank

The present day seat of the B.N.P was built in 1910 by Emile André, a local architect, who conveyed in the rooftops inspired by the Haut Koenigsburg castle the nostalgia felt by the people of Lorraine for Alsace which had been occupied since 1871. The interior decoration by Paul Charbonnier and cabinetmaker Louis Majorelle is inspired by "honesty", a plant the popular name of which in French is "Pope's money": the building is indeed a bank. On the façade, a frieze of apples recalls the yielding of profit. Except for some fanlights, the original stained glass by Gruber has disappeared.

 excelsior restaurant

excelsior restaurant

This brasserie was built in 1910 by Lucien Weissenburger and Alexandre Mienville. The original furnishings are still in place in the main restaurant as is the stucco fern decoration by Louis Majorelle. The vast openings are outlined with stained glass by Jacques Gruber. Formerly, a fresco by Victor Prouvé embellished the back wall.

 bergeret house

bergeret house

The printer Bergeret commissioned this elegant villa standing directly on a corner from Lucien Weissenburger; its pinnacles are inspired from the teachings of the gothic period. Floral decoration dominates: either sculpted or represented in wrought iron by Louis Majorelle or in the stained glass windows by Jacques Gruber and Joseph Janin. The stained glass window in the main staircase representing sea gulls taking flight over a raging sea in a framework of yellow roses is a masterpiece of its kind.

Weissenburger house

Weissenburger house

This big house built in 1904 by Lucien Weissenburger for himself adapts itself to the parcel of land. The theme of decoration of the main house and of his offices is seaweed, represented in wrought iron. A series of subtle recessed walls and different levels animate this massive building topped by a chimneystack in the form of a pinnacle. On the side façade, a dormer window bears the Cross of Lorraine.

Genin-louis seed shop

Genin-louis seed shop

Erected by building contractor Schertzer and architects Gutton in 1900 it was the first building with a metal structure in Nancy. The floral decoration by glass artist Gruber and the wrought iron remind us of the function of this shop (the large shop-windows were a novelty at the time in Nancy). The ridge of the rooftops was simplified during later works.
