Tatihou, the magic of a island


  Near Saint Vaast La Hougue
  Tatihou Island attracts sea birds , as well as anyone who is keen on history, nature and the environment.
  So uch has taken place here: the battle of the Hougue (1962) and building of the Vauban fort, the creation of a lazaret (1723), of a maritime laboratory (1887) sanatorium (1925) and educational center (1948).

La cité de la Mer


  Situated on the exceptionnal site of the Cherbourg Transatlantic Terminal, La Cité de la Mer, vast touristic scientific and cultural center entirely dedicated to the humanundersea adventure has opened its door in April 2002, and has been enourmously successful. Three major areas are shown to the public: the largest submarine visitable in the world “Le Redoutable”, the abyssal Aquarium, and the exhibition presenting the human underwater odyssey.

  Classified as an historic monument, the Notre Dame church dates from the 11th century. It stands with its fortified bell tower by the havre. Nowadays, it is an exhibition and concert center illuminated every night.
  The baptistery dates from the 4th century and has an original haxagonal shape. It is the only one that has been discovered in the north of Loire.
