The gothic cathedral

  The cathedral was built in 1368, on the initiative of Urbain V, pope in Avignon, originally from Gévaudan. It was consecrated for the first time one century later.
  The steeples were erected at the beginning of the 16th century. The tall steeple sheltered the "Non Pareille", a bell with an exceptional diameter. Its tongue can still be seen inside the cathedral.

  This 13th century bridge was for a long time the only one in the town.
  This charming spot also deserves a visit for the view onto roofs in the shape of an overturned ship hull.
  Panorama of the Cross of the Mimat Mount: Near the Hermitage the panorama of the cross of the Mount-Mimat is which offers an exceptional point of view on Mende and the surroundings.

  This mansion from the 18th century is a classic building interpreted in local fashion with its impressive "lauze" roof.
  To be discovered in the "Salle des mariages" (ceremony room), on the first floor, are beautiful Aubusson tapestries representing the biblical episode of Judith and General Holopherne

  These two houses, probably built by the same master craftsman, are the oldest in town (13th - 14th century). Behind the gothic porch are hidden fascinating restored patios.

The penitents' tower

  The most visible remains of the 12th century ramparts. The tower, with the chapel against it, will soon shelter a Penitents' museum.

  While wandering through the narrow alleys with their medieval charm, the visitor will discover wooden-walled and half-timbered houses, little oratories and very beautiful old doors. Mende has an exceptional heritage of doors dating from the 13th to the 20th century.

  On Wednesday, place Chaptal, there is the market of products of all kinds (textile, utility...).
  On saturday morning, place Urbain V and Chaptal place market of mouth products which includes a diversity of products of the soil...
  The large fairs of Mende take place the 1st Wednesday of April, January, May, June, September and November.
