Chateauroux

The town of chateauroux was preceded by that of déols. the gallo-roman presence is attested here by carved stones, ceramics currencies and ballot boxes.

hotel bertrand museum  The visit of the Hotel Bertrand's collections is a discovery of the heritance, from archaeology to the contemporary art, passing by the Decorative Art schools.

the valençay castle  This Renaissance castle resembles Chambord by many aspects :it was built in 1540 .The corner round towers already have elements of classical style.  The entrance pavilion looks like a keep ...but with many windows and fancy military decoration.  Charles Maurice Talleyrand-Périgord Foreign Affairs Minister of Napoleon ,bought this castle in 1803 at the request of the Emperor to receive important visitors.

the saint gildas meadow  Located on the edges of Indre, at a few minutes of the downtown area, the Saint-Gildas meadow is a natural wetland of 25 hectares. It shelters a particularly rich fauna and flora. During a pleasant walk along the arms of Indre, you will learn thus the plants characteristic of the wet mediums.  This site is also the home for many species of birds: martins fishing, falcons rattles...

Maison de george sand  The house of Nohant was bought in 1793 by Marie-Laure of Saxony, the grandmother of George Sand. The famous writer, lived there most of her childhood and inherited it in 1821. Here she received, untill her death many famous guests: Balzac, Liszt, Chopin, Delacroix, Flaubert.
