The pyrenean national park and neouvielle nature reserve
Created in 1968, the Pyrenean National Park covers 45.700 ha and extends along the Aspe valley as far as the Aure valley. Together with the Neouvielle Nature Reserve (2300ha), adjacent to the Park, the area is a genuine haven for the Pyrenean flora and fauna. The Aure valley is a high moutainous region, stretching from the limestone face of the Muraille de Barroude as far as the Pic de Neouvielle, accessible from Saint-Lary via the Route des Lacs. Famous for its beautiful lakes (Aubert, Aumar, Laquettes, Cap de Long and Oule), the granite massif of Neouvielle boasts the highest dwarf mountain pine forests in Europe.
