The only wines classified as "Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise"are produced from the "Small berry Muscat", vines grown in the villages or Beaumes-de-Venise and Aubignan. Other drastic rules (on pruning, sugar content of the wine before fermentation, time limit for mutage, etc…) create a wine of "exception".
The vine growers of Beaumes-de-Venise are the only group growing this grape variety in the Rhône Valley.
Probably of Greek origin, this grape variety adapts well to chalky areas.
Oenological qualities : It allows the production of natural sweet wines and fine sparkling wines or, in blends, to add aroma.
Sugar content is potentially high, acidity is balanced, flavour is intense and delicate.
