Rescue station

Chapelle de la brèche
The vault was initially built in 1932 and S `called the Vault of the Bathers then. It was damaged during the Unloading of June 6, 1944. To face the rigours of the winter which were announced, some inhabitants collected the boards of the Vault of the Bathers to heat itself. Rebuilt between 1947 and 1957, it is the work of the architects Pierre KOPF and Suzanne LAVINAC. Classified as “inheritance of the XXème century”, its enormous tiled roof (40 tons) rests on a concrete frame moored on the ground on wood pile. A sculpture in hollow of ZAVARONI and LORQUIN evokes the ground and the sea. Inside, the stained glass of entry is the work of painter DEVOUCOUX. It recalls the first hours of the unloading combined to HERMANVILLE-SUR-MER, with the boats which were used as mole with the artificial harbour of June 5, 1944. Central stained glass of the vault While entering the vault you will be able to admire a fifty two meters length stained glass carried out by the monks Benedictines of SAINT-BENOIT-SUR-LOIRE and SMALL the Michel artist. The topic of this luminous fresco is St Pierre, owner of HERMANVILLE-SUR-MER and integrates the topic of the Crucifixion into that of Unloading.

Discover hermanville-sur-mer
Young, sporting and dynamic, with its beach of 1800 meters fine sand, Hermanville-on-sea is a family seaside resort strongly attached to the culture and rich person of an important historical past. The long walks on the dam will make you discover treasures of civil architecture, of which “Bluette” of the famous architect Hector Guimard. The beach known as Sword Beach was one of the high places of the Unloading of June 6, 1944. You will be able to discover the British cemetery and the many monuments present at the Breach: that of Royal Navy on the place Felix Faure, paying homage to the missing sailors; that of the 3rd British Division of Infantry, on the place of the Battleship Billhook, commemorating the first unloaded soldiers with Hermanville. Since June 7, 2004, you can admire, place of the Battleship Billhook, the Norwegian monument “the Sailor”, paying homage to Norway which fought beside the other nations to release France. The monument was inaugurated in the presence of its Majesty the King of Norway Harald V. You will be able to grow rich by this historical and cultural inheritance through your walks, while benefitting from the joys of the beach, the practice of the veil, and estival animations as the Festival of the Sea organized every year, on August 15, on the dam. Hermanville-on-sea is a commune where the associative fabric is very dense and very credit.
