the gardens

Flowers have given Grasse, the World Perfume Capital, its aristocratic title. There once was a time when the visual impact as well as the olfactory impact was given by the gardens and flower fields filled with jasmine, roses and tuberoses ; the three Queens of flowers that contributed to the perfume industry. Today about twenty farmers cultivate these flower fields and a number of gardens still preserve this heritage which makes up the bouquet of Provencal fragrances.

Visite of the cathedral

Visite of the cathedral

The Grasse cathedral, "Notre Dame du Puy", was built during the 12th century. Its strict, basic style, its structure, its vaults and its discrete decoration reflect the lombardian and ligurian influences. It shelters such masters as Rubens, Charles Nègre and a beautiful triptych by Louis Bréa and the only religious painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard : "Le lavement des Pieds" (The cleansing of the feet).
