What to see, Cross of the Saint Saver (600m), overhanging the town of Foix.

Although it escaped dismantling during the sixteenth-century Wars of Religion – "too big" was the report to the future king, Henri de Navarre – the castle is now comprehensively ruined, but worth a look all the same. The church above has a distinctive squat, square bell-tower, with a double layer of arches on each face. The cornice comes back to the base of the valley at Bompas, 3km north of Tarascon on the road to Foix.
