The work of Gerard Schleich focuses on the development of natural pigments in abstract art, especially through the use of ochre in the region of Roussillon, small Provencal village in the heart of the Luberon. The ochre, abandoned in the early 20th century, was the basis for rock masterpieces dating back to Upper Egypt through ancient Rome. Creator of this, Gerard pays tribute to the noble materials and this rich cultural past the Mediterranean.
The artist creates abstract art, Gross, free from any doctrine. What inspires is a principle arrangements and improvisations arising from meetings of people, places or natural materials inspired by the melting-pot of cultures around us.
