  During the Consulate, the Chateau de Malmaison was the home of Josephine and Bonaparte. And, though the Empress remained here for many years after her rejection by Napoleon, it is that first period of glory, luxury and happiness which it evokes above all. From 1801-1802, the Chateau was the seat of french government, daily hosting working meetings, official and private receptions, concerts, balls and fêtes champêtres.

  Surrounded by hundred-year-old trees, La Petite Malmaison retains the appeal of a loved house and the charm of a private home. The Empress threw herself wholeheartedly into embellishing and decorating La Petite Malmaison. Her botanist P.J Redouté, created his most beautiful roses there.

  In Rueil's old centre, which has retained its village atmosphere, stands the Church of Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul, a listed historical monument. This church houses the tombs of Empress Josephine and Queen Hortense, her daughter and a beautiful organ, designed by Bacchio d'Agniolo, a gift from Napoleon III.
