A voyage in time, in the heart of a city rich of ten centuries of history, in a region that will bowl you over whit its charm.
|
The saint jean castle
Dominating the Town of Nogent Rotrou, the castle Saint Jean occupies a remarkable site. Located at the end of the plate cut out by Huisne, it overhangs five valleys, as well as the roads of the Mans in Chartres, and of Châteaudun with Bellême. It is thus at the crossroads between the Island of France, Normandy and Maine.

Champrond-en-perchet
The ruins of the old church of Xth century are visible close ot the village. Around 1035 it was given by Geoffroy V to the abbey of Saint-Denis. During the Middle Ages the ground of Champrond and its forest belonged to the Rotrou domaine. In the so-called "Les Salles", the Counts of Perche had their residence where they could hunt. The parish was removed and attached in 1803 to Brunelles.

Trizay-coutretot-saint-serge
The church of Trizay, consolidated in the XIXth century has stained glasses recalling the life of Saint Martin, owner of the parish. In Coutretot, you can still see the ruins of the very old church of Roman style (from the VIIIth to the Xth centuries).

Souance-au-perche
This village established on banks of the Ronne river is typical for the Perche region with its laundrettes, its scrap-metal and its sources (the Saint-Marc and the Saint-Georges fountains). The Saint-Georges church dates from XVIth century. Stained glasses recalls the life of the Saint-Patron.

Saint-jean-pierre-fixte
PETRA FIXA ("driven stone") indicates an old raised stone: a prehistoric workshop was discovered close to the old mill of Chéneau. The village has a curious characteristic: the fountain of the village dedicated to Saint Jean had the reputation to have healing virtues. A pilgrimage brought a crowd of parents who bathed their children, read a Gospel and deposed an offering. In XIIth century, the Roman church depended on the Saint-Denis abbey. It was restored in the XIXth century.
