  Loire, the longest French river is also the wildest in Europe. It is the shelter for a large number of animal and vegetal species : 488 types of plants, 204 types of birds and around 30 types of fish, including the salmon.

  In the heart of the Bourgogne region, the Chaussade Castel is located a few kilometres from Nevers in a beautiful parc on the Nièvre river. The castel was built in 1795 and was the shelter of the Royal Forges, an important element of the developing metallurgy industry in the area.

  The museum is located in an old monastery dated from the 17th century and presents two important themes: the ethnographical aspect of the Loire and, on the second floor, a beaux-arts section, based on a collection of modern paintings representatives for the Montparnasse School.

  The specificity of Nevers’s earthenware are the amazing decorations of beautiful ships from the 18th century. They were very fashionable objects and the tradition still continues nowadays in Nevers’s four workshops.

  Founded in 1059 on the Loire’s banks, for the next three centuries, La Charité was an important stop for the pilgrims to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle.
