Montgenèvre : authenticity and tradition

Sites and museums 

Crossing point since antiquity (roman way, cottienne), montgenèvre is proud of its steeple with original lantern, its obelisk raised to the glory of napoleon in 1804 and finally « les alberts », hamlet located in the classified « vallée de la clarée ».

  Napoleon's Obelisk: Built in september 1804 to celebrate the end of Montgenèvre’s road making and to the glory of the Emperor Napoleon I.
  St-Maurice's church: Rebuilt in 18th century because of a fire. The originality is the lantern hanging from its steeple. It was a guiding mark to visitors who cross Montgenèvre’s pass in bad forecast conditions.
  The chapel "Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs": It was repaint with an enggraved stone dated 1780.

Janus' fort

Janus' fort


  It symbolizes the past ant the military inclination of the area. Il was built from 1886 to 1906 and an 900 metres long underground working was added (between 1931 and 1937).

Les alberts village

Les alberts village


  Sundials: They symbolize a very old tradition : giving time and making one’s house prettier.
  "Le Four Banal": The bread making was done once a year, so it was a great celebration. Nowadays, people celebrate this day during august.
  Saint-Antoine's Church: Little Church dated 1688. The greater part was restored through ages. Inside, the walls are hung with old pictures and with a polychromic statue representing St Antoine.

  Part of an oceanic’s crust aged million years and raised to 2 500 metres high during the Alps creation. The molten lava (1 100°C) ran cold water (2°C) to compose cushions and tubes.

The durance's origins

The durance's origins


  It is in Montgenèvre, at more than 2000 m of altitude, between the Mountain of Chenaillet and that of Janus, that the first waters, being at the origin of the Durance concentrates, a river classified among most significant of France.

  Unique in the region, the Park has a course made up of a sequence of 10 Tyroliennes of almost one kilometer length.
  You will be able to explore the 6 courses of increasing levels joining together more than 65 plays from 1 to 2 meters for the children and their parents and from 2 to 15 meters in height for teenagers and adults.
