Uzes and its region

In the area surrounding Uzès, different paths lead you to some very pretty villages, including Saint Quentin la Poterie, which gave new impetus to the traditional pottery of Languedoc by welcoming a number of potters.

  Uzès was the starting point for the Roman Aqueduct of Nîmes and the seat of a diocese until the Revolution. The very powerful dukes of Uzès were First Dukes of France. The town was marked by the Wars of Religion, but it was affected little, if at all, by the Industrial Revolution. It preserves its glorious heritage.

Blauzac

Blauzac


  Blauzac overlooks the gorges of the Gardon, which have been a transportation route and a dwelling place since prehistoric times. Ceramic artefacts prove the existence of a prehistoric settlement here. The presence of a Celtic oppidum is evidence of more recent human habitation.

  Serviers is an ancient village situated beneath the promontory on which its castle is located.
  Visit of : Private castle, reconstructed in the 17th century; the 12th-century church, destroyed and reconstructed in the 17th century, re-using some of the materials from the original church.

  Discover its porches, its Middle Ages streets, the ruins of its castle, the ruins of an old mill, the bridge of the hamlet of Bourdiguet, its many laundrettes, its Romance church of the 11th century in the hamlet of Gattigues, its chapel in the hamlet of Bourdiguet.

  The village's very name evokes its vocation, pottery. The kilns had been working in the outskirts of St. Quentin la Poterie since the 12th century, but the arrival of the railroad signaled the decline in production. The last firing of bricks took place in 1954.
