Iton, source of life
The numerous arms of the river , as well as its canals, such as that of the Queen Jeanne, which adjoins the Navarre district to the downtown area, have always represented an important source of energy before the invention of the steam engine. This explains the massive presence of water-mills and wash houses. Certain remain today and can be seen from the rues du Pont-de-Fer, from the rue du Docteur Guindey, Dubais du Président-Huet, .... and on the promenade between the rues du 7è-Chasseurs and the rue Saint-Sauveur.

musée de l'ancien eveche
The Episcopal Palace constructed in 1509 by Pierre Smoteau is built into the Gallo-Roman ramparts. It is interesting for its very distinctive façades: to the south, a defensive aspect with machicolations and murder-holes, to the north the elegant decor in the Flamboyant Gothic style. Today, it houses the municipal museum collections and the basement contains an archaeological room in which one can discover the foundations of the Gallo-Roman ramparts from the 3rd century.

The archeological garden
The Archaeological Garden brings out the splendour of the Gallo-Roman public baths. Looking through the eyes of a Plebeian of Mediolanum Aulercorum (Evreux) on a pilgrimage to the sanctuary of Gisacum (Le Vieil Evreux) in the 2nd century AD, the tour of the public baths invites visitors to follow the pilgrims' progress through vast public baths. The site will enchant hikers and lovers of local history.
