A high colored region. since 1995, saone-et-loire raises the distinction "trophy of the flowered region", reward allotted by the national committee of flower.

The villas from the belle epoque
Starting point:
Beyond the Bridge of Préconil: with the n° 5 bd Jean Mill, Hotel-restaurant " La Belle Aurore " conceived by Rene DART in 1925. Continue on the sea’s banks towards the town’s centre. On the left, the n° 26, av Lattre de Tassigny: Basorelief "Les Tritons" of the local sculptor Jean PORTAL. On the avenue Charles de Gaulle, at n° 24: mosaic carried out by Laszlo BARTA (1902-1961), painter and Hungarian mosaïst. At the n° 30, bd Charles of Gaulle: Basorelief symbolizing Sainte-Maxime, carved by Jean PORTAL. To the right, the Casino: built by Rene DARTS in 1927-1928. Opposite, with the n° 1, bd Jean Jaurès: the "Palais des Sirènes" built in joint ownership by the architecte Henri BRET, in 1929. Continue in direction of the town's centre . Before crossing the avenue, next to the Office of Tourism, note the sculpture "Le Jour" of Jean PORTAL. Take the 1st street on the left, between the bank and the bar. With the n° 2 avenue of Verdun: from Louis Blanc place, you'll see " Le Palais du Soleil ", designed by the architecte Andre BARBIER - BOUVET in 1930. Take the Sarrasins street on the right. At n° 16, street Paul Bert: " Maison provençale moderne " designed by Rene DARTS in 1920. Continue straight, turn left by the Montée de la Résistance and pass under the porch. You'll see at the top of the staircases a beautiful villa carried out by R. DARTS in 1932. Turn to the right on the Hoche street and go till the Berthie Albrecht Avenue. This avenue is rich in a whole series of villas of a beautiful architectural quality. Nevertheless, we will concentrate on those of the years 20-30. Return to the centre town by the sea's banks on the General Leclerc Avenue. At the n° 27: "Saint-Hilaire" built by the architecte Rene DARTS in 1930. The first "Large Hotel" of Sainte-Maxime faces him at the end of l?allée Saudan bordered of palm trees. With the n° 5: villa "Les Oursins" built by the architects Gustave and Gaston LAUZANNE in 1929. Go down the stairs right after this villa. You will join the large pier of the port to have an interesting sight on these villas and buildings close to the sea. Take again the avenue on the sea's banks in direction of the town's centre . The Eglise square was increased and restored by the architecte Rene DARTS in 1938. While coming out from the Eglise, take to the right to cross the Place of the Palm trees. On your right at n° 28, Perished Gabriel street : " Hôtel des Palmiers " conceived by R. DARTS in 1927. Go down again on the street on the sea shore by the stairs. On right side, at n° 110 Charles of Gaulle, avenue : old house built in 1870, whose frontage was modified in 1927, in the taste of the mad years, by the architecte Henry POMEY.

Charolles, where the castle of the Counts of Charolais from which there remains the Tower of Charles le Téméraire, most famous of them, is an old Celtic ttown, originally called "Kadrigel" which means "fortress surrounded by water". Today, the town with its thirty bridges and footbridges is called "small Venice Charolaise". Charolles, classified as "remarkable tasting site, is known to be the cradle of the famous white bovine race and of the ovine race whose tasty meat is appreciated by the gastronomists.

Welcome to mâcon .
Mâcon, capital of the Saone-et-Loire region, is also capital of the wines. Southern door from Bourgogne and its vineyards, the ttown is also close to the Beaujolais wine.
