At the mouth of the rivers which empty into the Baie des Veys there is a special phenomenon, on the rising tide : the Mascaret tidal bore.
This is a breaking wave which moves rapidly up these rivers (Douve, Taute and Vire), caused by the resistance which the outgoing river water gives to the arrival of the incoming sea water.
To observe better the phenomena you will be at the lock gates of the Port of Carentan ½ hour before the opening of the gates
