Mountain products: le hohwald.
The mountain area is rich of traditional products. Duck breeding provides goose leaver, preserved duck meat, and steak let. Typical cheeses, are supplied by the cows resting in the meadows. There you can also taste some mountain honey or some game meat, that the cook knows perfectly how to accommodate.

The village of gingerbread: gertwiller.
To taste the local speciality have a stop at Gertwiller the village of gingerbread. The land Barr Bernstein is particularly proud of that sweet cake. In the past, Gertwiller had 7 gingerbread factories and the receipt was transmitted to only two producers, who still leave there and offer a large and varied range of specialities for everyone. The Gingerbread Museum will perfect your knowledge of this Alsatian speciality and of chocolate.

The beer of saint pierre...
For the beer lovers, this village should not be missed: a small brewery has settled down in the centre of Saint Pierre. Why not taste a fresh beer with a delicious flamed tart?

Epfig, chocolate and goose leaver.
Epfig has many culinary traditions: Alsatian goose leaver and chocolates are the most famous ones. That is why the village is a gastronomic stop. Easter tradition remains much anchored in Alsace. Why not go and seek your chocolate eggs in the garden: it is tradition!

‘asperula odorata’:
Do you know Asperula? It is a small odorant plant with white flowers which grows in the mountain. It gives a particular taste to jam, wine, cakes and other desserts. You can see the flower on springtime in Le Hohwald and Dambach-la-Ville. There is even the ‘Asperula festival’ in May or June.

Vine growing: free visit.
And to finish, visit the wine villages of the Land Barr Bernstein. They are so numerous because the area of Barr gathers half of the vineyard of Bas Rhin. Small villages or larger boroughs, it’s up to you to choose! In Barr took place the first Grape harvest festival, which confers to the city the title of “capital of the Bas-Rhin wines” . You can find the Klevener of Heiligenstein, produced only in Heiligenstein, Goxwiller, Gertwiller and Bourgheim. Some other kind of wines are to be found in Barr: Kirchberg, in Andlau: Kastelberg, Wiebelsberg, Moenchberg, in Eichhoffen: Moenchberg and in Dambach-la-Ville: Frankstein. Do not hesitate to enter in the wine cellars: the wine growers will be pleased to make you discover and taste their treasures.
