CHATEAU DE THORENS Self Catering

CHATEAU DE THORENS

  74570   Thorens-Glières

The castle has overlooked the Les Glières plateau and the old roman road since 1060. In the de Sales family since 1559, Thorens was home to Saint François de Sales (1567-1622) while Piedmontese Prime Minister Camille de Cavour (1810-1861) holidayed there. Souvenirs, objects and works of art belonging to the Holy bishop, the founder of the Italian Unity and their respective families are kept in the castle. Your visit will take you back over 1,000 years in time, through dungeons and guards'rooms (12th-13th centuries), across the kitchen with its gigantic fireplaces (1632), and through the beautifully furnished lounges, bedrooms and studies.
